Service Projects

This year we will be participating in the SwitchWitch - Operation Gratitude program. Next week we are collecting Halloween candy to be donated to US troops via care packages. Students can donate candy that they collected while trick-or-treating or extra candy that was purchased to give to trick-or-treaters. Each homeroom will have a friendly competition to see who can donate the most Halloween candy, with the top homeroom receiving an extra PE class. More exercise and less candy is a great way to stay healthy.

Also, we are collecting cardboard tubes (any size), for another service project. Please send in these items next week.  Thanks for your help!

Uploading Homework

Good Morning! I'm going to try and upload the homework for this week. I'm not sure if this is working.  I've been receiving emails to allow parents to view the document. Please send me an email if you do not have access.

I'm out of the building this week until Thursday attending a professional development workshop. Molly Ebel  will be subbing for me.  If you have any concerns over the next few days, please email me. I will be checking my mail each day.
Have a great week!

The web link will also be available under Useful Links.  Current magazine issues with relevant videos and science games will keep students actively engaged in learning! Enjoy!

Hurray!!! We finished our IOWA tests this morning.  We celebrated by playing '4 Corners' and using the Chromebooks to practice math concepts on Sumdog.

Okay, hopefully this attachment works!

The Week Ahead

The last week of October brings us also to the last few days of IOWA testing.  Students have been focused and working hard.  To take the edge off, students had access to the chromebooks and practiced math concepts on Sumdog.  We should be wrapping up the testing by Tuesday or Wednesday morning.

New spelling words are up on for my reading group. Having some trouble linking the homework sheet. Will re-visit tomorrow!

Good Monday!

Students did a great job on their first day of testing.  They completed the Reading section of the IOWA's and demonstrated sustained focus throughout. Although they weren't particularly excited about testing, they were very excited not to be assigned homework from Mrs. Ferguson! (Reading nightly is still expected.)

Students also enjoyed a Kona Ice treat at the end of the day. Thanks PTC!!!

IOWA Testing and Homework

Over the next 2 weeks most of the students at OLF will be taking the IOWA Basic Skills Test.  Please make sure your student has a healthy and complete breakfast to start each day and gets sufficient rest. These simple steps make a big difference in how students approach and perform on their tests.

If your student has been attending OLF since Kindergarten, this is their first experience with the IOWA's.  Assure your child there is no need to worry.  Tell them that although this does not affect their grade directly, they should do their best.  I will not be assigning homework for the duration of the testing.  I would rather the students be well rested and stress-free each morning.  Please email me if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you!!!

Change in Testing

Mrs. F's reading group will have their Spelling Test, tomorrow, Thursday.  We ran out of time today.  Also, all of their spelling words are on Spelling City.  It's a great site to go to for practice!

Also, check out the Useful Links on the right hand side of my blog. I've just uploaded the link to Senora Faivre's Spanish Homework. Adios!

Agenda Club

Grades 3,4 and 5 began Agenda Club this week. Students can come to the on-duty teacher's room after school and have their agenda and corresponding materials checked.  Incentives will be given to those students who attend for a whole week. Agenda Club this week is in Ms. McNamee's room (this is a change from my last post). It will be held on Mon, Tues, and Thurs.
